READ: Matthew 22:37-39
Someone once said, “The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.” Women are wired naturally as emotional beings. They smile or cry when they achieve a great feat or experience a loss, and they give people many chances to do the right thing even when they know they may get hurt. They also get emotionally attached to someone who treats them well, whereas it is not the same for many men as men are naturally wired as logical beings. Many men do not express their emotions and may even be uncomfortable when they see a woman cry.
This distinction in gender makes it possible for girls to be attracted to guys and want to date them often because they crave to be loved and cared for. However, any love and care a child of God receives outside of God’s principle of purity will lead to sin. It is okay to love anyone, just as today’s Bible reading encourages us to love our neighbours as ourselves, but you must submit that love to the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that you don’t begin to engage in sinful practices with other people under the guise of love.
Quiz: Where in the Bible are husbands encouraged to honour their wives as weaker vessels?
ACTION POINT
Today is my birthday. Please pray for me as led by the Holy Spirit.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
1 Chronicles 15:1-16:36 Romans 1:18-32
HYMN 27
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!
2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge–
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.
