MESSAGE: Leadership is not about position, privilege or power. It is serving others from a place of selflessness and sacrifice. It is also pointing others to God. The first essential ingredient for effective leadership is vision. When there is no vision (revelation or word from God), people will live their lives carelessly and unlawfully.
Though God has a plan for everyone, failure to know that plan will result in living a life without purpose. However, if you give a man or woman a reason for living or a sense of destiny, his or her life will be transformed.
Some Bible characters that executed their God-given visions succeeded greatly and are good examples for us today. Joseph received the vision for his life in two dreams. The visions he received at the age of seventeen made it clear that he was going to become a ruler among men (Genesis 37). Moses was given a vision for his life at the burning bush.
Abraham was given a vision for his life by God showing him two important pictures. First, God showed him the sand upon the sea shore. Second, He showed him the stars in the heavens and declared that his offspring would be as plentiful as the sand and the stars. Similarly, in the New Testament, Paul was given a clear-cut vision by the Lord in Acts 9:15. Each of these Bible characters became leaders and heroes because they used the visions God gave them as their lives” compasses.
In the words of Apostle Paul to King Agrippa, he did not disobey the heavenly vision (Acts 26:19). Beloved, you need vision to become a leader, succeed in leadership and fulfil your purpose in life. Someone defined a leader as a person who knows the way and shows the way.
It is important for every leader to have complete clarity about his vision and be able to communicate it in a simple way to members of his team. As a leader, Moses got a clear vision from God about his role to lead the children of Israel out of captivity in Egypt. He communicated the vision very well to the Israelite.
