Proverbs 22:15 – Christian Standard Bible
15 Foolishness is bound to the heart of a youth;
a rod of discipline will separate it from him.
MESSAGE:
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
The Psalmist said that children are a heritage of the Lord. In other words, God owns every child; parents are only stewards. Therefore, as stewards, parents are expected to carry out some responsibilities on God’s heritage put in their care.
It is the responsibility of parents to provide and take care of the physical needs of their children. They are to love and protect their children. Parents are to educate and discipline their children. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverb 22:6).
Parents are to show good example to their children in all things. Lois and Eunice, the grandmother and mother of Timothy respectively, gave proper training to their son, Timothy. They trained him in the laws of God and instilled in him the fear of God.
In the training of members of his household, God had confidence in Abraham (Genesis 18:19).
Every child has the tendency to be wayward. It is the responsibility of the parents to rise up to the challenges of parenting and stop the forces of waywardness in fervent prayers, say no to the vices their wards or children may want to manifest.
The Bible says, foolishness is bound in the heart of a child: but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him (Proverbs 22:15). The parents (father and mother) must agree and speak with one voice when it comes to matters of training their children.
Beloved, your responsibilities to your children are numerous. You are not expected to fail in any area. Ensure that you train your child in the way of the Lord. Lead them to the Lord and make yourself the perfect epistle they read daily. Let them be able to follow and serve Christ. Be a good mirror of a Christ follower to them. Their spiritual lives must be excellent. So, also must their physical, academic, career and social lives.
Let Christ be the epicentre of their lives. When you succeed in doing this, no matter where they go, they will stand for Christ as Daniel and his three brothers did as slave boys in Babylon.
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
1. O Lord my Father, break every unbroken area of my life, in the Name of Jesus.
2. My children, hear the Word of the Lord, you will not be children of Belial, in the Name of Jesus.
3. Arrow of untimely death, you will not locate me and my children, in the Name of Jesus.
EVENING
4. Agape love, manifest in my family, in the Name of Jesus.
5. I silence every cry of idols of my father’s house against me and my children, in the Name of Jesus.
6. Destiny assassins, my children are not your candidates, fall down and die, in the Name of Jesus.
7. Power of God to resist the devil, fall upon me now, in the Name of Jesus.
