Proverbs 15:4 – “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”

If you do not control your tongue, it will end up controlling you.

Let us consider the description of the tongue according to James 3:6: “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
The Bible says that the tongue is a world of iniquity that defiles the whole body. It means that as small as it is, it can put the whole body in bondage. The tongue is an unruly evil. It is used to bless God and to curse men, and it is full of deadly poison. It is capable of good conversation and as well as bitter strife. Although it is a small member of the body, the Bible says it can ignite a big flame. The tongue has destroyed many things including lives, families, nations, etc.
The power of the tongue is not ordinary as we learnt in our devotional yesterday. So, it is humanly impossible to tame the tongue or put it under control. And the Bible says if you cannot control your tongue, you will not be able to control other parts of your body. Therefore, it is paramount that we bridle our tongue if it is already out of control and putting us in trouble. There are steps for taming the tongue:
1. You must be genuinely born again.
2. You must be determined to be delivered from unbridled tongue.
3. You must subject your tongue under the control of the Holy Spirit.
4. You must read and study the word of God.
5. You must become a prayer addict.
6. You must keep company of good Christians.
7. You must engage in witnessing.
A bridled tongue is a sign of spiritual growth. Proverbs 13: 3 says, “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life, but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.”

1. O Lord, I repent of all my negative confessions, in the name of Jesus.
2. Let the coals of the Holy Ghost fire fall upon my tongue, in the name of Jesus.
3. O Lord, restore to me all the good things I have lost through unholy words, in the name of Jesus.

4 . My tongue shall be an instrument of praise to the Lord, in the name of Jesus.
5. Powers putting me in trouble through the words of my mouth, die, in the name of Jesus.
6. Powers using my tongue against me, die, in the name of Jesus.
7. Father Lord, fill my tongue with Your fire, in the name of Jesus.
