MFM Daily Devotional 21 December 2019 – Dealing With The Counsel Of Ahitophel

MFM Daily Devotional 21 December 2019 By Dr.D.K Olukoya – Dealing With The Counsel Of Ahitophel

TOPIC: Dealing With The Counsel Of Ahitophel

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Micah 4-5; Revelation 12

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 17:1-4

MEMORY VERSE: “The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.” – Psalms 33:10

MESSAGE: The Bible records that David, by the grace of God, enjoyed the company, loyalty and services of divine helpers of various kinds. The Bible also says that God made them available to David like the stars of heaven. They were called the mighty men of David. Apart from these men valiant of war, David also had men who were skilled in military intelligence and were special advisers. One of them was Ahitophel. The Bible likens Ahitophel to an oracle of God. His advice was highly respected.

However, a time came when Ahitophel left David’s camp and joined forces with Absalom who was scheming to topple his father’s government and take over the throne. Ahitophel’s defection was at the highest level of David’s administration. David knew he was in danger and prayed earnestly to God to frustrate the counsel of Ahitophel. God did. I pray that the Lord will hear you in the day of trouble and the name of the God of Israel will defend you, in Jesus’ name.

The gang up of Absalom, Ahitophel and others at this time was against the Lord and His anointed, David. It took that Holy Spirit-inspired prayer point to bail David out. Heaven intervened and Absalom openly rejected the counsel of Ahitophel. 2 Samuel 17:14 says, “And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.” That, perhaps was the first time Ahitophel’s counsel was rejected. He felt so embarrassed that he went home and committed suicide. Absalom who headed the coup against his father also died miserably.

God is the Reverser of the irreversible. He turned the counsel of Ahitophel to nought. He converted the point of honour in Ahitophel’s life to point of dishonour because Ahitophel was working against David, the anointed of the Lord. 2 Samuel 16:23 says “And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.” Then when God made Absalom and all the men of Israel to reject Ahitophel’s counsel, in 2 Samuel 17:23, the Bible also records, “And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.”

The word of the Lord in Isaiah 8:9-10 was what got fulfilled in the life of David, “Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.” I pray that the desire of the wicked concerning you shall perish and every counsel of the wicked for your life shall be frustrated in the order of the counsel of Ahitophel against David, in the name of Jesus.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil.

PROPHETIC WORD:
EVIL SHALL SLAY YOUR ENEMIES AND THEY THAT HATE YOU SHALL BE DESOLATE.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1 Any friend that has deflected to the enemy to fight me, die in the order of Ahitophel, in the name of Jesus.
2 O God, arise and dismantle every confederacy and conspiracy against me, in the name of Jesus.
3 O Lord, turn the counsel of Ahitophel in my life to foolishness, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4 I shall not fight against the Lord and His anointed, in the name of Jesus.
5 O God that saved David from the coup and insurrection of Absalom, deliver me from domestic battles, in the name of Jesus.
6 Enemies within and enemies without, scatter unto desolation, in the name of Jesus.
7 O God that answers by fire, make me invincible by fire, in the name of Jesus.
