Contentment is achieved through divine alignment. That is why apostle Paul wrote to Timothy stating, “Godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6). Note that it is not just gain, but great gain. To be truly contented, therefore, calls for a healthy state of mind. It calls for a humble, grateful heart; one that seeks God and is ready to accept whatever He offers as the best, a heart that is surrendered to the Giver of all good things, irrespective of the present circumstances, one that is not greedy or covetous of another person’s success or riches. A contented man is not often critical of others, entitled, perfectionist, or ungrateful. God detests such unhealthy and ungodly attitudes.
Beloved, everyone that is patient enough to wait upon the Lord eventually becomes a spectacular wonder. Resist the temptation to always seek instant gratification so that you do not fall into any evil trap. Gehazi’s greed brought leprosy upon him and his generation. If he had been satisfied with whatever his master had given him, he would not have fallen into the curse that became a generational liability.
As a child of God, be contented with whatever you have. Silver and gold are God’s (Haggai 2:8). He gives us the power to get wealth. Therefore, set your mind on the things above and not on the things here on earth. Desire and determine to be godly in all your relationships and dealings: home, workplace and church. Desist from ungodly acts and unprofitable ventures that do not befit a child of God. The Bible counsels us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added (Matthew
6:33). It is a matter of priority. Put God first. Be satisfied with what He gives you. He is able to give you abundance of every good thing of life (Ephesians 3:20). Do not despise the days of little beginnings. Better days are yet to come and great shall be your gain.
