TOPIC: When Grace Defeated the Monster
“Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 5:20-21
PONDER THIS
There was a little boy who came down the aisle at church to give his heart to Jesus Christ, and the pastor wanted to make sure the little guy understood. So, the pastor said, “Tell us how you got saved.” He said, “I did my part and God did His.” And they said, “Well, tell us about it.” He said, “I did the sinning, and He did the saving.”
Because of God, we have reigning power. He saved us and brought us into a new identity in Himself. Adam reigned over an earthly dominion before he fell, but we have a heavenly kingdom where we reign with the Lord Jesus Christ. And we don’t have to wait until we get to Heaven to do it. The Bible says, “We will reign in life” (Romans 5:17). We have moved into His kingdom; we are seated with Jesus in the heavenlies.
When Adam sinned, a monster was let loose in the land, a monster. That monster was sin, and that sin abounded until grace came along. And then grace says, “Hold it right there.” As Paul said, “where sin abounded, grace abounded much more”—God’s amazing grace. Even if we fall, if we fail, if we stumble, if we forget to call on the grace of God and we fall into sin, He never lets us go. He will cleanse us, forgive us, and restore us. Great loss came through Adam and such beautiful riches came through Jesus.
