Topic: The Care of Your Pastors (2)
Key Verse: Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn – Deuteronomy 25:4
Texts: Deut. 25:4; 2 Chron. 31:4-10; Luke 10:3-7; 1 Cor. 9:7-14; 1 Tim. 5:17-18; Heb. 13:17.
Memory Verse: “Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.” 1 Cor. 9:14
The Bible expressly commands, instructs and directs without provision for argument or doubts that Pastors should be properly taken care of. It abounds with viable instances of proper pastoral care and God’s commendation on such actions. In today’s study, we shall sample a few instances where such care was exhibited and its attendant results.
ABRAHAM’S LUNCH PARTY WITH THE LORD. Gen. 18:1-10;
Knowing and understanding God’s ways procures a permanent solution to so called challenges that bedevil humanity and have defied deliverance, prayer and fasting. Who could have envisaged that the meal Abraham prepared for the Lord will bring such an incredible creative miracle thus ending 25 years of agony in barreness. Remember, there is such a thing as the Prophet’s reward. It is very obvious that like Abraham, many of us have gone through all manner of spiritual exercises ranging from dry fasting, deliverance, midnight prayers etc. to no avail. Whereas the answer to your quest is in your gift or seed you have withheld from giving to your Pastor. Indeed. It is no secret what God can do. May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened so that you will know what you ought to do.
THE SHUNAMMITE WOMAN’S BUILDING PROJECT FOR ELISHA. 2Kings 4:8-17, 27-37; 8:1-6.
This woman OBSERVED that God’s Servant hath no shelter and knowing that it was only a privilege to be in such a position, she consulted her husband and a parsonage was built for that purpose. This was accomplished without any strings attached, God being overwhelmed by this singular gesture, swiftly stepped in and broke the yoke of barreness over her family, restored her child to life in his youthful days, forewarned her from an impending famine that ravished families and restored all her landed properties at the end of the seven years’ famine. Don’t ever attempt to withhold. Prov. 11-24-25.
GOD’S STANDING INSTRUCTION TO THE CHURCH. 1 Cor. 9:14; 1 Thes. 5:12-13; 1 Tim. 5:17-18.
It is the spiritual responsibility of the church to deliberately in conjunction with the demands of the scriptures make provision for the welfare of their pastors. They should be properly taken care of. They are worth DOUBLE HONOUR which means that whatever we are considering to do for their care, safety, wellbeing etc should be done comparatively more than what an ordinary man should receive. Take note of the choice of words. ” DOUBLE HONOUR”. Also, 1 Thes 5:13 clearly instructs that we should esteem them VERY HIGHLY in love for their work’s sake. How do you esteem your Boss in the office, your landlord? etc. Your Pastor is worth double the esteem.
