, Monday Message. As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)

TOPIC: The Great Commission

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. — MARK 16:15–18

In Mark chapter 16, Jesus gave the Great Commission to His disciples. Jesus is about to depart and be with the Father, and His disciples are going to take His place in the earth. They are going to be His representatives and continue His ministry—to do what He would do if He were there. Jesus gave the Great Commission to herald the Good News to a world for whom He died. He revealed that the twofold ministry would continue.

First, the Commission was given to meet the spiritual need of man. Jesus said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved . . . ” (Mark 16:16).

Second, Mark 16:17 says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe. . . .” The Greek word for “believe” in verse 17 is the same word that you’ll find in verse 16. Both promises stem from the simple term “believing.” The act of believing brings one into the family of God. And then, the rich cluster of miraculous promises that follow also belongs to them who believe—or, as the Greek says, to “the believing ones.”

Confession: I believe and am saved. And signs follow me because I am a believing one. I cast out devils in Jesus’ Name. I speak with new tongues. I lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
