TOPIC: Inquire of the Living

SCRIPTURE: “Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” – Psalm 119:37

God gives some awfully ‘dangerous’ warnings in Scripture; I mean take those chilling words in Isaiah chapter 8. Woe to those who quote “inquire of the dead on behalf of the living.”

Now, before you think “Eh, that’s not me,” consider this: you could be taking cues from the spiritually dead when your eyes linger on a horoscope at the checkout stand; you, quote, “inquire of the dead” when you give yourself over to certain television shows that are filled with darkness, or popular novels, movies – anything that deadens your spirit or makes your soul chilly toward righteousness? It’s a way of inquiring of the dead.

So, make Psalm 119 your prayer, say, Lord, “Turn my eyes away from worthless things and give me life.” Oh, friend, thank you for avoiding any and everything that diminishes the work of Christ in your life. Today, inquire of the living God!
