TOPIC: Coming Home
Not long ago, I was hospitalized for double pneumonia. When I recovered, they sent me home with a chest percussion vest to keep my lungs clear (it’s a big Velcro vest around my chest that vibrates violently, like a jack hammer). And it’s ridiculously loud. Ken can be saying something and there’s no way I can hear him, it’s so noisy. But when the timer on the machine is up, bang.
Instantly, everything stops, everything’s quiet. I sit there, a little dazed. Then I always say, “And just like that, it’s over.”… I wonder if a similar thing might happen when God calls me home. I’ll step into heaven, and glance behind me at the noise and hardship and violence of earth, and I may say, “Just like that, it’s over.” And I’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of coming home, to heaven.
