Joni And Friends 17 January 2024 Devotional Message
Joni and Friends 17 January 2024 Devotional Wednesday Message. As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)
TOPIC: Among the Nations
“Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” – Psalm 105:1
Christians everywhere seem to be stepping up efforts to evangelize, looking for new ways to share the gospel with people far and wide. For myself, the Lord has put a burden on my heart for a different kind of foreign mission. I’m talking about the Armenian gentleman who runs a shoe repair shop, and three Iranians who run a nearby gas station. These people are intrigued by the smile I offer them from this wheelchair.
Despite their limited English, I try my best to share Christ with them. In fact, an Armenian friend hunted up some tracts and books I gave to the shoe repairman. The other day I stopped by the Texaco station and gave the elder Iranian serviceman a copy of the Bible in Persian. He flipped through it and jabbered something in Farsi about reading a portion of the Bible sixteen or seventeen years ago. I could tell he was glad to receive his own copy. As I drove away, I thought how wonderful it was that this man, who probably was raised a Muslim, had received the Word of God so warmly.
These are just a few people God has placed in my life, folks in my community I see all the time. I could tell you more stories—about the Japanese gardener in our neighborhood, the Chinese owners of the Lotus Inn, the Mexican guys who clean our office, and the Nicaraguan girl at the supermarket checkout stand. All these receive either Bibles in their own languages or tracts (Campus Crusade has a ton of foreign-language tracts!). Sometimes I give them a Joni book if I have one in their language.
God has brought the nations to your doorstep. Find a way to share with these thirsty people a drink of living water. Do it today.
Ruler of all nations, how amazing that you have given humans—not angels—the privilege of being messengers of your most important news: the gospel. Give me the courage to spread that news today.
