Today’s Scripture
But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” – Luke 1:30–31, NIV
Today’s Word
When the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was going to give birth to the Messiah, she was engaged to a fine young man. This had been the best time of her life, preparing for the wedding. Then came the amazing news that out of all the women in the world, she had been chosen to carry Jesus.
What Gabriel didn’t tell her about were the difficulties ahead. Joseph was so upset that he was about to break off the engagement. There would be the gossip, slander, hurtful talk of neighbors. There would be the painful ninety-mile trip to Bethlehem on a donkey when she was nine months pregnant, and then only a manger to stay in. Mary had to handle so many wrongs to deliver the right.
When God gives you a promise, when He puts a dream in your heart, you have to realize that the difficulties and wrongs you’ll face are all a part of His plan to bring it to fulfillment. Keep honoring God, keep Him first place, and you’ll see His purpose come to pass.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for Your promise that You will bring a fulfillment to Your plans for my life. Help me to stand firm in the difficult times when everything seems to be going wrong. I declare that I am going to keep honoring You and doing what is right. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
