TODAY’S WORD
While Paul and Silas were in the city of Philippi, they had been arrested, beaten with rods, and locked up in prison for sharing their faith. They hadn’t done anything wrong. They could have been upset and complaining. “God, why did this happen now? We were doing what You told us to do. This isn’t fair.” They recognized the enemy’s scheme was to steal their joy and get them sour so they wouldn’t have the strength to withstand the trouble. Rather than be bitter, they were singing praises to God at midnight. They were thanking Him for His goodness, declaring His faithfulness. They had a song of praise in their hearts when they were mistreated. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, the prison doors flung open, their chains fell off, and they walked out as free men.
When you keep praising and keep your joy despite what’s coming against you, God goes to work. You’re not only going to be strengthened to withstand the trouble, but favor is released. Doors will open, and He will make a way where you don’t see a way.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that You, the all-powerful Creator of the universe, are with me, just as You were with Paul and Silas. In the difficult times, when I don’t know how a situation is going to turn out, help me to offer You a sacrifice of praise. I believe You will work out Your plan for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
