This is the Day That the Lord Has Made
      by Vivienne Hill

Today’s Scripture: The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. – Psalm 118:24, NIV

Message: I am very spoken to by songs and, having never been to any kind of children’s church, becoming a believer in my 20’s, I learnt a great deal of Scripture through songs. One of my favourite songs, based on the above scripture from Psalms, is the chorus which says, ‘This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made. We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, glad in it.

When things went wrong, I used to say, “It’s not my day”. But I have trained myself not to say this now. Although it is actually true to say that it is ‘not my day’, it is not for the reasons I would have used the phrase then. It is not the desperate cry, “It’s just not my day!”, meaning “It’s so unfair”, or “I’m unhappy”, but for the more reverent reason that it is the Lord’s day.

Our Bible teaches us, in Genesis 1, that not only did God create the world, the heavens and the earth, but He ‘saw that it was good’. So, He made no mistake. We know we live in a world full of sin, pain, and suffering, and this is especially true right now, with so much going on around us that is overwhelming. So, we need to be totally grounded in Him.

We are human beings, made in God’s image in a world that He made. The days were all made by Him. We are created in three parts, body, soul and spirit. So, we can sing these words, using our lungs and voice box, (our physical body), making a conscious choice in our soul (an act of our free will), and doing it as an act of worship (with our human spirit), ‘This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made. We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, glad in it’.

Even though things might be going wrong all around us (and the writer of this Psalm 91 really understood that), we can make a free will choice not to curse the day, but to accept that our Father made it and choose to rejoice in it. ‘Because of the LORD’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassion never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness’ (Lamentations 3:22-23).

When we do that, it lifts our spirit because we are aligning ourselves with the King of kings and Lord of lords, and not believing the enemy’s lies. What better place to be! We can face whatever the enemy throws at us, hand in hand with God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to bring my cares and troubles to You so that whatever I feel, I will be able to face them with You and not apart from You, knowing that You will never leave me or forsake me. I ask this in the name of your precious son Jesus. Amen.
