DCLM Daily Manna 22 July 2019 – God Cares About Your Health

DCLM Daily Manna 22 July 2019 Devotional by Pastor W.F Kumuyi

Topic: God Cares About Your Health

Text: Leviticus 11:1-12.

Key Verse: “They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but he shall have their carcasses in abomination” (Leviticus 11:11).

DCLM Daily Manna 22 July 2019 Message:“You are what you eat” is a popular saying in modern times. But long before our age, the Lord knew the value of food in health; hence, His instructions to Israel on the type of food they should consume.

One noticeable feature in creatures is the differences and varieties that mark them out. Although they all have the features of living beings, their peculiar feature distinguishes one from the other. In the passage, the Lord specifically commanded Israel on the kind of animals and sea foods they could eat and those they must avoid because they were unclean animals.

Without good health, there is no happiness, peace and success. Health is more valuable than money. No wonder the saying: “Health is wealth.” A person who must be wealthy and successful must first be sound in health. Money cannot buy wealth and happiness. So, we must be mindful of what we eat which could be harmful to our health.

God is very concerned about your overall health: physical, emotional and spiritual. The human mind and body are all interrelated and interdependent. What affects one affects the other. If the body is sick because of unhealthy eating, our minds cannot function the way God intended. You cannot enjoy fellowship with God and man – serve in the church and be a blessing to others. You can be considered healthy only when you are in a good spiritual, emotional, mental and physical condition. God’s desire is that you prosper and be in health.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God is as interested in our physical welfare as He is in our spiritual wellness.

COVER TO COVER: 2 Chronicles 9-12.

MEDITATION: Eat with Caution

1. Clarifications on the text:
a. The classification of animals into clean and unclean was given to Israel as a nation and not to the Church.
b. They were classified on moral ground and not health ground.
c. The concept of ceremonially unclean animal was just to teach them discipline on eating habits and to test their self control and loyalty to God.

2. Why the concept of clean and unclean animals do not apply to the Gentile believers?
a. All the animal creatures God made was declared good by God and non is created unclean (Genesis 1:20,21, 24,24).
b. God made it clear that every animal shall be meat for man (Genesis 8:3).
c. Jesus was emphatic that what we eat, including meat, does not defile especially if it has nothing to do with human deprived heart (Mark 7:18-20).
d. Christ has exempted the Christians from the Jewish ceremonial ordinances of “touch not”, “taste not” etc (Colossians 2:20-22).
e. The Bible makes it clear that discrimination against meat on religious ground is a manifestation of departure from the Christian faith (I Timothy 4:4,5).

3. Lessons from the ceremonial classification of meats:
a. There should be self control in what we eat.
b. Some of the things will swallow have negative effects on the body and the health if there is no appropriate caution.
c. Even though there is liberty to eat all meats, those that are not profitable for your system should be avoided.
d. There is no health insurance cover for any unhealthy feeding lifestyle.
Question: What other lessons could you learn from the text?
Question: Who are those people in the Bible that their attitude towards food was the cause of their destructions (Adam and Eve, Esau, etc). The first Adam fell by food and the first temptation for second Adam was on food. Beware of your appetites.

1. When I saw the cleansing fountain,
Open wide for all my sin,
I obeyed the Spirit’s wooing

Praise the Lamb for sinners slain;
Give Him glory, all ye people,
For His blood can wash away each stain.

2. Tho’ the way seems straight and narrow,
All I claimed was swept away;
My ambitions, plans and wishes,
At my feet in ashes lay. [Refrain]

3. Blessed be the name of Jesus!
I’m so glad He took me in;
He’s forgiven my transgressions,
He has cleansed my heart from sin. [Refrain]

Glory, glory to the Son!
Glory, glory to the Spirit!
Glory to the Three in One! [Refrain]
