“They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” – (Psalm 126:5).
READ: Psalm 126:5,6 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
David Livingstone said, “People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Can that be called a sacrifice that is simply paid back as a small part of a great debt owed to our God, which we can never repay? Is that a sacrifice that brings its own best reward in healthful activities, the consciousness of doing good, peace of mind, and the bright hope of a glorious destiny hereafter? I never made a sacrifice.”
True conversion expresses itself in real commitment, consecration, and dedication to the service of the Lord. We are not saved by service but are saved to serve. All who hope to be productive and fruitful in the Lord’s service must die to themselves and be willing to sacrifice themselves to the Master’s business, irrespective of the cost. Who amongst us can pay for all Christ did to redeem us from eternal damnation and the curse of the law? Think of the great benefits of the Cross! You may have to endure pain and rejection while serving the Lord. The reward and commendation are meant for faithful labourers, not for those who abandon their duty posts. The apostles sowed in tears and reaped in joy.
Apostle Paul laboured more abundantly than his contemporaries, and toward the end of his ministry, he boldly wrote: “I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”, and that a crown of righteousness is kept for him and all who love Christ’s second coming. As someone said, the fields of human souls are ripe for harvest. The privilege to preach Christ is open in many countries and many communities. Indeed, the harvest is plenteous, but there are few labourers.
Considering the enormity of the work and the deplorable condition of sinners all around, we cannot afford to sit idle, watching men and women, young and old, slip into an endless eternity without Christ.
It is time to arise, put on the gospel armour, and launch out with the burden to rescue the perishing. These are our tasks as co-labourers with Him. Come what may, we can then say like Paul the apostle, “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The time to serve the Lord is now!
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
