Waiting on God is not always easy. There are seasons when answers seem delayed, when clarity feels distant, and when our hearts long for something we cannot yet see. In those moments, waiting can feel like standing still.
But Psalm 33:20–22 reveals that waiting on God is not passive—it is active and full of expectation.
The psalmist says, “Our inner selves wait earnestly for the Lord.” This kind of waiting is filled with trust. It is a posture of the heart that says, God, I may not see what You are doing, but I believe You are working.
God is described as our Help and our Shield. That means while we wait, He is not absent. He is actively protecting, guiding, and sustaining us. Even when nothing seems to be happening outwardly, God is at work inwardly—strengthening our faith and shaping our hearts.
And in the middle of waiting, there is still room for joy.
“For in Him our hearts rejoice…” This joy is not based on circumstances, but on trust. When we rely on God’s name—His character, His faithfulness, His promises—we find a reason to rejoice even before the answer comes.
The passage ends with a beautiful request: that God’s mercy would rest upon us as we wait and hope in Him. This reminds us that waiting is not empty—it is covered in God’s loving-kindness.
So if you are in a season of waiting today, don’t lose heart. Your waiting is not wasted. God is your Help. He is your Shield. And His mercy is resting upon you even now.
Wait with hope. Trust with confidence. Rejoice in Him.
Let’s Pray:
Lord God, I bring my heart before You in this season of waiting. You know the desires, the questions, and the hopes I carry within me.
Help me to wait earnestly and patiently for You. Teach me to trust You even when I cannot see what You are doing. Remind me that You are my Help and my Shield in every moment.
Fill my heart with joy, not because everything is resolved, but because I trust in who You are. Let my confidence be rooted in Your name and Your faithfulness.
Lord, let Your mercy and loving-kindness rest upon me as I continue to hope in You. Strengthen my faith and guide me through this season.
Thank You for never leaving me and for always working on my behalf.
