Dream is one of the ways by which God speaks to people but not every dream is a message from God. What effect did this particular dream have on Nebuchadnezzar that made him desperate to know its meaning (v.1)? Any dream (or issue) that affects your sleep or peace should be examined.
Nebuchadnezzar turned to his wise men for solution but was disappointed (see their final verdict in vs.10-11). Hence it was only when Daniel (God’s servant) was involved that a solution was found. Where, and to whom do you turn when faced with difficulty? Daniel was able to succeed where professional wise men failed because he had a personal relationship with God who unravels deep and hidden things (see Deuteronomy 29:29, Psalm 25:14)
Read vs.14-19 and outline about six steps Daniel took in dealing with the situation. What qualities of Daniel are worthy of emulation from vs.14, 17, 19? In v.23c, we read: “You have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king”. By using “we” and “us” Daniel displayed good team spirit. He did not see himself as the champion of the victory.
