TOPIC: Setting The Captives Free
TEXT: Mark 5:1-20(NKJV)
STUDY: In Luke 4:18, part of Jesus of Nazareth’s Manifesto stated that He came.to preach deliverance to the captives… ” In other words, He came to set captives of Satan free. This was clearly demonstrated in the story here. The demon-possessed man in our story was violent, very dangerous and a nuisance to his society.
The devil is a very bad master: He gave the man residence in the tombs, fed him with junk, clothed him with rags, bruised his body always, kept him dirty without bathing, refused him freedom (bound in chains) and kept him restless. It is surprising what those that devote their life to serving the devil gain! Thank God the devil does not exercise the ultimate power. Jesus demonstrated superior power over the devil, though at a great economic loss to save a soul.
John 10:10 states that the devil came to steal, kill and to destroy but Jesus came to give us life and give it to us more abundantly. Jesus demonstrated His power of deliverance by setting the man free, He thereafter directed him to go to his people and share his testimony. What a great testimony that would be.
What challenges are you facing today? Have you surrendered it to the power and authority of Jesus? Are you, your friends or your family members under the bondage of the devil? Invite Jesus today and He will set you free.
PRAYER: Prayer: Oh Lord, arise and let all powers of darkness tormenting my life
bow to your authority.
Daily Fountain Quote of the Day
Hebrews 12:1-2: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
