Daily Devotional Today 13 July 2022

TOPIC: Unequally Yoked

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the descendants of the captivity were building the temple of the LORD God of Israel, they came to Zerubbabel and the heads of the fathers’ houses, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you do; and we have sacrificed to Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here.” Ezra 4:1-2 (NKJV)

Daily Devotional Today 13 July 2022 | WORD FOR TODAY

There are many who claim to be Christians, but a glance into their lives and an examination of the fruit of their lives, reveals evidence contrary to the claims. Many times I have, in marriage counseling, seen one spouse surprised to discover that the other is, in fact, not a believer. As crazy as it sounds, it happens a lot! I’ve seen Christians team up with business partners whom they believed to be Christian only to later discover that they are not. God has been quite clear that it is not in the best interest of Christians to partner with non-Christians.

2 Corinthians 6:14-15 “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?” NKJV

You should not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. Why? Well, think of a yoke around the necks of two oxen. Why is it there? That’s right…it ensures that they each go in the same direction. What direction? Well, without someone leading the team, the pair will go in the direction of the strongest ox. In a marriage between an unbeliever and a believer, the relationship will go in the direction of the unbeliever. In business, don’t expect a non-Christian partner to operate within the Godly principles of your convictions.

Does this mean we are to separate ourselves from other people who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior? No, absolutely not. We are to be involved in life with them in order that we might tell them all about Jesus and lead some to salvation. Their lives, however, are not to dictate our lives and their yoke is not to be ours. When you take up the yoke of a non-believer, you will put down the yoke of Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” NKJV

LIFE LESSON: Be careful who you team up with.

Daily Devotional Today 13 July 2022 | PRAYER

Thank You for loving me. Lord, I get so distracted with the things of this world. I have been complacent and self-centered. Help me to reach out to others who don’t know You, but not become entangled with them in ways that will be unpleasing to You. Help me to live a life that is surrendered to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THROUGH THE BIBLE
Morning: Psalm 10, 11, 12
