Daily Devotional for Today (August 14, 2026) | Morning Prayer & Bible Verse

Start your day with a moment of reflection and connection with God through this daily devotional. Be encouraged by a powerful Bible verse, guided by a heartfelt morning prayer, and inspired to walk in faith, purpose, and peace throughout your day.

TOPIC: The Power Inside

Bible Verse of the Day

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” — Romans 8:11 (NIV)

Daily Devotional Message

Paul does not say “the Holy Spirit” or simply “the Spirit of God.” He says: the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead.

The description is deliberate. Paul identifies the Spirit not by a title but by the greatest act of power in human history — the raising of a dead man from a sealed tomb on the third day. He is saying: I want you to know which Spirit we are talking about. Not a vague spiritual force, not a gentle divine influence drifting through your devotional life. The specific, identified, demonstrated power that reversed death in its most final and definitive form. The power that looked at a sealed tomb and said: not today. That power. And then he says: that power is living in you.

The Greek word for “living in” is oikeō — to dwell, to inhabit, to live in as one lives in a house. The Spirit has not visited you and left. He is not passing through, not available on request and otherwise absent. He has taken up residence. He lives inside the same body you carry into every ordinary moment of every ordinary day. The address of the Spirit of resurrection is inside you — right now, as you read this sentence.

God has already done the harder thing. He raised His Son from the dead. What you are facing today is not beyond the reach of the same power that handled that.

Then Paul makes the promise: he will also give life to your mortal bodies. The word mortal is important — thnēta sōmata, bodies that are subject to death, bodies that age and tire and get sick and bear the marks of time. Paul is not speaking about spiritual life only, about the inner person being renewed while the outer person deteriorates. He is speaking about these bodies — the physical, material, earthly bodies you live in. The Spirit who lives inside a mortal body will give life to that mortal body. The resurrection promise is bodily, not just spiritual.

The ultimate fulfillment of this promise is the resurrection at the last day — the same Spirit who raised Jesus will raise your body when Christ returns. But the implications reach into the present. The resurrection power is not only held in reserve for a future event. It is active right now, inside the believer, in the body the Spirit inhabits. The same Spirit who will raise the dead is already giving life — sustaining, healing, strengthening, renewing — in the mortal body He currently calls home.

Paul is making an argument from the greater to the lesser. If God raised Jesus from the dead — the most impossible reversal imaginable, the ultimate demonstration of power over the ultimate enemy — then what you are facing today is manageable for that same power. Whatever is dead in your life. Whatever feels sealed and finished and past recovery. Whatever your body is carrying that you have been afraid no one can reach. The Spirit who reversed death itself lives inside you. That is not a comfort intended for crises only. It is a daily reality meant to govern the way you walk into every room, carry every burden, and face every morning.

The power that raised Jesus from the grave did not then leave the earth. It moved in.

It lives in you.

Morning Prayer

Father, I pause this morning to let this verse land in a way I don’t always allow it to. The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in me. Not a gentle spiritual presence — the specific, demonstrated, death-reversing power that opened the tomb on the third day. That power lives inside this body. Let me live today like someone who knows that.

Where my body has been weak, tired, or sick — I declare that the Spirit who gives life to mortal bodies is at work in me. I am not left alone with what my body can do by itself. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is currently living in the same vessel that is carrying me through this day.

Where something feels sealed and past recovery in my life — a relationship, a situation, a season, a hope that has been four days dead — I bring it before the Spirit who raised what everyone else had given up on. You are not finished with what I am tempted to call finished. The power inside me is greater than what is pressing on me from outside.

Let me walk into this day with that awareness — not arrogantly, but with the quiet, settled confidence of someone who knows what lives in them. In Jesus’ name — Amen.

Reflection for Today

  • Paul identifies the Spirit specifically as “him who raised Jesus from the dead” — not a vague spiritual force but the power that reversed death. How would you live differently today if you genuinely held onto the reality that this specific, identified, resurrection power is living inside you right now — not visiting, but indwelling?
  • Paul specifically says “mortal bodies” — the physical, earthly, aging body you live in. Is there something your body is carrying right now — physically, in terms of health or weariness or limitation — that you have been handling as though God’s power is only interested in your spirit? How does Romans 8:11 speak into the physical dimension of your life?
  • God raised Jesus — the harder, more impossible thing. Paul’s argument is that your situation is smaller than what He has already handled. What is the “sealed tomb” in your life right now — something that feels past recovery, finished, beyond reach? What does it mean to bring that specific thing before the power that has already proven it can reverse the irreversible?
