📖Bible Verse for Today
Psalm 62:5–8 (KJV)
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation…”
Daily Devotional Message
Today’s daily devotional speaks to a deep need that many people carry—the need for rest, peace, and stability in the midst of life’s pressures. In Psalm 62:5–8, David reminds himself—and us—that true rest is found in God alone.
Notice how David speaks directly to his own soul: “My soul, wait thou only upon God…” This shows us that sometimes, we have to intentionally redirect our thoughts and emotions. Life can be overwhelming, and our minds can easily become filled with worry, fear, and uncertainty. But David makes a conscious decision to shift his focus back to God.
This is something we must learn to do daily.
The word “wait” here does not mean passive inactivity. It means trusting, depending, and resting in God with expectation. It means choosing faith over anxiety, even when circumstances are unclear.
David goes further to say, “for my expectation is from him.” This is powerful. Many times, we place our expectations in people, opportunities, or outcomes. When those things fail, we feel disappointed and discouraged. But when your expectation is rooted in God, your hope becomes stable because God never fails.
Another key phrase in this passage is: “He only is my rock and my salvation.” A rock represents strength, stability, and protection. In a world where everything seems to shift—economies, relationships, plans—God remains unchanging.
When you build your life on Him, you gain a foundation that cannot be shaken.
David also calls God his defense and refuge. A refuge is a place of safety, a shelter in times of trouble. This means that no matter what you are going through today, you have a safe place in God. You can run to Him with your fears, your burdens, and your concerns.
Verse 8 gives us a practical instruction: “Trust in him at all times… pour out your heart before him.” God invites you to be honest with Him. You don’t have to hide your feelings or pretend everything is okay. You can come to Him just as you are.
Many people carry silent burdens—stress about the future, emotional pain, unanswered prayers. But God does not want you to carry those burdens alone. He wants you to release them to Him.
In today’s fast-paced world, rest has become rare. People are constantly busy, distracted, and mentally exhausted. Even when physically resting, their minds are still active with worries. But true rest is not just physical—it is spiritual.
Real rest comes when you trust God completely.
It comes when you stop trying to control everything and allow God to take His rightful place in your life. It comes when you believe that He is in control, even when things seem uncertain.
If you have been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or restless, this passage is a reminder to slow down and return to God. Take a moment today to pause, breathe, and refocus your heart on Him.
Let go of the pressure to have everything figured out. Release your expectations, your fears, and your plans into God’s hands. Trust that He is working on your behalf.
God is your rock. He is your refuge. He is your peace.
And in Him, your soul can truly find rest.
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my rock, my salvation, and my refuge. Today, I choose to wait on You and to place all my trust in You alone.
Lord, calm every anxious thought and every restless feeling within me. Help me to release my worries and to rest in Your presence. Teach me to trust You at all times, even when I don’t understand what is happening around me.
I pour out my heart before You—every fear, every concern, and every burden. Fill me with Your peace and remind me that You are in control.
Strengthen my faith and help me to stand firm on You as my foundation. Thank You for being my safe place.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
