Summary:
An idol is anything or anyone that we give higher priority to than God. In these end times,
everywhere we look we see people who have set up idols for themselves. God gives us life;
therefore, it is always dangerous to replace Him and worship something or someone else. We
stay safe when we make sure to put Him first.
Notes:
1. We live in a world of idols. We must resist the temptation to put anything before
God. God created us to have wants and needs; when we want or need anything, He
wants to be our source. God wants us to delight in Him as our provider and
sustainer.
- God wants to be first in our lives. Replacing Him puts us in a spiritually dangerous
situation. Coveting anything is idolatry because it turns our attention from God to
something of lesser value. It leads us to think we can be satisfied apart from Him. -
Who we are as believers must be based on God’s Word, not on the world’s
definitions. We must not make the image we project to the world our god. Neither
should we turn our identity into an idol; we must not place more value on who the
world says we are than on who God says we are.
