TOPIC: Understanding The Provisions of The Seed of The Righteous

TEXTS: Gen 12:1-7;13:15-16; EXO 32:13; Ps 37:23-26; Neh 9:7-8; Prov 11:21; Gal 3:15-17.

MEMORY VERSE: “For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.” Gen 13:15-16

God’s word remains potent and creative whenever it is rightly applied in our daily lives. By the appropriation of the terms of the cove nant that God made with our Father Abraham, our living is therefore not defined by the things we see but by the manifestation of the spoken word through faith in Christ Jesus.

When God made this DEFINITE and SURE promise to our Father Abraham, a number of vivid observations could be made-

The seed of Abraham are those who by the grace of God are qualified to benefit from God’s boundless blessings and limitless resources.

They are equally instruments through whom God’s blessings are passed on to others. Abraham was a blessing to as many that were under him. So are we today.

This covenant is not exclusively for the Jews but also for the Gentiles (i.e. all the families of the earth Gen 12:2) who have acknowledged our Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour Gal 3:15-16.

The power of blessings conferred on Abraham was such that man’s response to Abraham’s seed automatically determines whether he is blessed or cursed.
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Gen 12:3. What a glory!

BATTLE FOR THE ACTUALIZATION OF THE PROMISE:

As clear as the promise was made to Abraham at the inception of Genesis 12, it suffered repeated attack, threatened collapse and obvious doubts based on the seemingly hopeless situations that apparently contradicted the promise. In the midst of all these challenges, God was still in charge. At each stage of the challenge, God showed up.

Kindly observe the following staggering moments and build up your faith for a fulfillment of every single promise in your life in this year of prosperity and sweetness.

In as much as the promise tarried for a while, at the fullness of time, fifteen years after the promise, Abram’s name was changed to Abraham ( meaning father of many nations) indicating God’s alertness and consciousness of the promise, though it was yet to come to pass.

Though Satan fought against the realization of this promise by the introduction of the strange woman as a concubine to Abraham and the consequent birth of Ishmael, God’s infallible word was still made manifest. At a time when they least expected, Isaac was born.

God equally stepped in to protect and preserve the promise when Abimelech hijacked Sarah (from Abraham to marry) by asking him to restore her to Abraham her husband. Gen 20:1-8.

After the birth of Isaac, God saw the possible conflict that was roaming in the atmosphere and hence instructed that Hagar and her son Ishmael be sent away. Gen 21:8-21.

NOTE:
Temporal adversity has pushed many seeds of the righteous to run to wrong places to seek for help or counsel and has equally forced many others  to take wrong decisions which they never recovered from. GOD WILL SURELY TAKE CARE OF YOU. Do not fret or faint. He will surely step in. A song writer rightly puts it like this:-

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.
