SUMMARY:
A proper interpretation of the Bible is essential if we as believers are to be effective in sharing the Gospel of Grace. When Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission, He meant it in a broader sense than simply traveling to a physical location to spread the Word we’ve been given; He meant incorporating it into everything we do as part of our everyday lives.
Reading the New Testament requires that we read it through the lens of the finished works of Jesus Christ; our faith should be based on the same thing. This means that because of our belief in Jesus, God has already forgiven us for our bad behavior. Endless work on our part is unnecessary; we’re already healed, delivered, and prosperous. Everything we’ve been blessed with came as a gift from God, not because of our own efforts to deserve something from Him.
Jesus is what God believes about us; therefore, agreeing with Him elevates us from operating from faith
in God to the faith of God Himself.
Notes:
1. Moving past our limited English language in prayer gives us a greater perspective on laying
hold of faith. The faith we need should be the same faith Jesus has.
2. The Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek; although we should have one faith,
our English language, culture, and western mindset can cause us to misinterpret or
misunderstand the writers’ original intent.
3. Having faith in God isn’t the same as having the faith of God. Jesus taught this lesson to Paul.
4. Paul preached to people who believed that their justification came by obeying the Law of
Moses; he taught that our righteousness comes not from works, but from Jesus.
5. Jesus Christ should be the source of our faith. He’s faithful and righteous even when we’re
not.
6. Jesus is faith; this faith is in us when we’ve been born again. We aren’t to live by our faith, but
by His.
