Summary:
We live in a time in which everyone wants to be successful, but no one wants to do what’s necessary to be a success. True leadership is demonstrated by a willingness to serve; to be a great leader, we begin by serving others. We have the perfect example of humble service in Jesus Christ, who willingly served others. If we’re to be His disciples, we’re expected to do the same.
Notes:
1. Most people don’t understand the role servanthood plays in developing them as leaders. Jesus was no less than the Son of God, yet He served us with His very life to pay the ransom for our sins. The true meaning of servanthood is to serve God and His kingdom.
2. To succeed, godly leaders must be willing to humble themselves first by serving others. Most people want to be a leader so that they can be seen and heard; it makes them feel important. However, there is an anointing and a blessing in being last and choosing to be a servant.
3. Christ set the perfect example of humble servanthood. Following Him makes us great.
4. We’re surrounded by a culture that looks down on servanthood and glorifies selfishness. Service to others is the heart of ministry. Jesus gave His life to serve people; in light of this, we must ask ourselves who we have given our lives to.
