Daily Fountain Devotional 9 July 2025 TOPIC: God Knows How To Promote The Righteous
SCRIPTURE READING – 2 Samuel 2:1-7(NKJV)
2:1. It happened after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”
2:2. So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.
2:3. And David brought up the men who [were] with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
2:4. Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead [were the ones] who buried Saul.”
2:5. So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You [are] blessed of the LORD, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.
2:6. “And now may the LORD show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.
2:7. “Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”
Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 9 July 2025 STUDY:
Yesterday, we learnt from the godly approach of David to the death of King Saul. He did not rejoice but rather mourned sincerely with such a great lamentation as “How are the mighty fallen and the weapons of war perish!” (2 Sam. 1:27). After this, David enquired from the Lord and received permission to go into Hebron, one of the cities of Judah, with his family and dwell there.
Interestingly, the men of Judah came there and anointed David king over the house of Judah (v.4). What a wonderful God who raise up the poor out of the dust; and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes and to make them inherit the throne of glory! (1 Sam. 2:8).
Dear child of God, it pays to stand on the Lord’s side. Be not wise in your own eyes and do not play smart games. Allow God to work things out for you himself; do not scheme out your own promotion. Do not be fraudulent in your bid to get to the top or acquire material possessions. The life of David shows that God knows how to handle your life. You do not need to kill or injure your fellow worker or superior in order to rise.
In God’s own way, as He did for David, He will lift you up, with guaranteed peace all around you. Remember, only whatever God does shall be forever (Eccl. 3:14). Relax confidently in the saving arms of the Lord; He knows how to lift you up.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I trust you for greater glory every day; I know I shall not be disappointed.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: God says “I am the Lord your God who heals all of your diseases. Exodus 15:26“
