TEXT: Matthew 5:1-12(NKJV)
1. And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
2. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3. “Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4. Blessed [are] those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
5. Blessed [are] the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
6. Blessed [are] those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
7. Blessed [are] the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
8. Blessed [are] the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
9. Blessed [are] the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
10. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12. “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great [is] your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
STUDY: This passage highlights one of the greatest teachings of Jesus known as the Beatitudes (blessed are). Jesus taught His disciples deeper things about the kingdom of God, highlighting the kingdom lifestyle expected from us. Some of these include; “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted… “Great and encouraging promises are given for anyone Who takes their Christian race seriously. Those who are persecuted for righteousness sake arising from their faith and not for what they are guilty of, are assured of great reward in heaven (Read I Peter 4:12-16).
Are you living your life for the kingdom? You are on the correct path. Are you in the opposite direction? Retrace your steps now. Are you being persecuted because you have made up your mind to live your life as a Christian, don’t give up, there is a great reward before you! The same happened to believers of old and they endured to the end. They are being used as our examples today. May your faith and steadfastness today be a challenge to someone and be a reference point tomorrow.
PRAYER: My Lord, may you keep and sustain me in the kingdom race
till the end. Amen.
Daily Fountain Quote of the Day
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:10)
