TOPIC: A Sudden Return
TEXT: Matthew 24:36- 44(NKJV)
36. ” But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
37. “But as the days of Noah [were,] so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
38. “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
39. “and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
40. “Then two [men] will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
41. “Two [women will be] grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
42. “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43. “But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44. “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 28 November 2021 STUDY:
Jesus will come unexpectedly, just like the days of Noah (Matt.
24:37-39). Noah was busy building his ark and warning the people of the coming flood (Gen.5:32 7:5), but they were preoccupied with their own pursuits of life. They refused to heed the warnings of God. What will be the condition of the world when Jesus returns? In the New Testament, Jesus and His disciples make it very clear there will be total depravity, exceeding wickedness and eve apostasy in the church when Jesus returns. It will be an evil day Jesus will be despised and hated by the vast majority of people over the world. Do we see these signs even today?
The stress of the whole passage in Matthew is that we must be ready for Jesus’ coming, because He will come when we do not expect Him. No one knows at what time or during what watch the thief will come, therefore keep on watching. Be ready! Are we prepared in mind and heart? Are we ready for His coming? May He not find us too busy to care, as it was in the days of Noah!
PRAYER: Come Lord Jesus!
