Topic: Unto Us A Child Is Born!
Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Luke 2:1-7
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Vs.1-3 shows the historical personalities and events prevailing at the time of Jesus’ birth. The Roman Emperor had ordered for a census covering all areas under his reign. Some historians say this happened around 4 BC. What was significant about this registration (v.3)? Prophet Micah had prophesied about the Messiah’s birthplace (see Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:3–5).
Note that God, who was about to fulfil His word through Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14) was also, by the Emperor’s decree, going to fulfil His word through Micah regarding the birthplace. Joseph obeyed both God – by accepting Mary (v.5; read Matthew 1:19-25), and the political ruler – by travelling from Nazareth to Bethlehem, his own hometown. Notice the simplicity that surrounds the birth of the King of kings who was born in a manger – a trough where water is kept for animals. And how does this compare with the extravagant spending associated with Christmas today. Its commercialization has eclipsed its essence – the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. As we celebrate Christmas today, let us put the important things first – share God’s love with others and give glory to the living God. Merry Christmas!

JOY TO THE WORLD
1. Joy to the world; the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her king:
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
- Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy. -
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found. -
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
Closing Prayer
• Dear Father, thank you that you sent your Son into the world to be our Saviour, fulfilling your word spoken through the prophets.
• Thank God for the huge impact of the Bible on human souls and the power in it to transform lives.
