TODAY’S READING
Isaiah 49:13-18

KEY VERSE: See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands. – Isaiah 49:16 (NRSV)

I knew no other students in my new sixth-grade class. I cried every day after school, and I felt alone, scared, and empty. I begged my mom not to make me go and even asked her to homeschool me. I was afraid of being alone all day.

One day I was determined that I was not going to school. After my mom dropped me off at school, I ran away. I planned to go sit outside my house all day since no one would be home. As I walked home, my mom found me. She asked me what was wrong. When I told her everything, she told me that I really was not alone. She explained that God was with me, and had a plan for me. I decided to go to school with a mind open to God’s plan, and I ended up making two friends who remain my closest friends to this day.

Even when we feel the most alone, God is with us. It is impossible for us to be alone if God is in our hearts. When we feel scared and alone, we can choose to focus on God’s presence and plan for us. We can take refuge in Christ and let him be our guide.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God’s presence in my life means I am never truly alone.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Loving God, help us always to trust in you and be open to your plans for us. Remind us of your presence and guidance when we are lonely. Amen.

PRAYER FOCUS
