The Upper Room 26 November 2021 Daily Devotional Message
About a week after I returned from maternity leave, my job was unexpectedly eliminated. I was shocked, hurt, and anxious about how my husband and I would make ends meet. We were just learning how to be parents of a new baby. How were we supposed to handle this?
I went grocery shopping the next day with a heavy heart, still wondering about the future. I saw a woman about my age who looked familiar. Asking her name, I realized that she was the nurse who helped me through the toughest part of my recent labor. She was a kind and patient caregiver, and I had wanted her to meet my daughter. But her shift ended before she had the chance. This had always made me a little sad. Three months later — in the middle of a grocery store — they finally had the chance to meet.
This was the sweetest moment that the Lord could have given me that day. I was scared, and God had felt far away. In that moment, I realized that God heard my prayers and listened closely. Our Creator is always present and always lovingly cares for us, even when our situation feels troubled. Sometimes God speaks to us when we least expect it.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God loves and cares for me always.
