The Upper Room 25 November 2021 Daily Devotional Message
My brother, Martín, lives in New York. In the apartment building where he lives, several cats come around every evening. My brother tells me that he always purchases food for them, spending about $10 daily. Knowing he has limited resources, his friends scold him and question why he bothers with the cats. My brother’s response is: “It is a way to express gratitude for God’s immense goodness. I am almost 70 years old, and God has granted me a good life — without pain, filled with energy, and the ability to work and live without limitations. Caring for God’s creatures is a small way to demonstrate my gratitude to God.”
As I reflected on his story, I realized that if we all expressed such gratitude to God, it would create in us a generous spirit; we would have a much more loving and caring world.
I am grateful for my brother, for his example, and for his inspiration to follow the biblical teaching to “be generous on every occasion.” May we all work at developing more grateful and generous hearts so that God’s will may more fully be realized.

Today I will show gratitude to God by giving generously.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Generous God, thank you for your loving-kindness and the blessings we receive each day. Inspire us to be generous with everyone we can, in whatever ways we can. In the name of the One who gave his life for us. Amen.
