DUNAMIS 26TH SEPTEMBER 2021 TESTIMONIES AND THANKSGIVING SERVICE
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): EXODUS 20:15; LEVITICUS 19:11
MESSAGE TOPIC: DESTINY-DESTROYING CHARACTER (5A&B)
By: Dr Paul Enenche

SERVICE OBJECTIVE(S): Understanding character traits that destroy destiny
It has been confirmed by the authority of Scripture that character is a pointer to destiny
The strength of destiny is determined by the strength of character
Character is the bedrock of destiny; the poverty of character is the worst form of poverty
The poverty of character is the bankruptcy of destiny
It is important to note that behaviour is the foundation for becoming
How you behave determines what you will become

CHARACTER TRAITS TO AVOID IN ORDER TO FULFIL DIVINE DESTINY:

  1. Theft (Financial lack of Integrity) (Ex. 20:15; Lev. 19:11)
Theft is one of the most destructive of character traits
Theft, like lie, is a character trait of the devil (John 10:10)

SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE RUINED BY THEFT:

  1. Achan (Josh. 7:24-26)
What Achan stole not only destroyed his life but also destroyed his future and his seed
  2. Gehazi (2Kings 5:25-27)
There are iniquities that implicate generations
When you take what is not yours, you tamper with the future of your seed
  3. Judas Iscariot (John 2:4-6; Matt. 27:3-5)
It shall never be well with the wicked

SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE DISTINGUISHED BY FINANCIAL INTEGRITY:

  1. Abraham (Gen. 14:22-23)
Whatever is not yours that enters your hands has come to reduce what is yours
  2. Jacob (Gen. 31:38-39)
Jacob displayed integrity with resources in the house of Laban
Destiny does not happen by chance; people do not amount to something important in the Hands of God by chance
  3. Joseph (Gen. 39:6)
Your faithfulness of today positions you for your usefulness of tomorrow
What you do with your today determines what your tomorrow will do with you

WHAT IS THEFT ALL ABOUT?

  1. Financial crookedness
  2. Financial deceitfulness

CATEGORIES OF FINANCIAL CROOKEDNESS/DECEITFULNESS:

a. Outright stealing
b. False and untrue bills or charges
c. The financial oppression of the underprivileged/poor

WHAT IS THEFT ALL ABOUT?

  1. Financial criminality
  2. Financial dishonesty

CATEGORIES OF FINANCIAL CRIMINALITY AND DISHONESTY:

a. Cheating
b. Deceitful sales/unjust gains
This is where you pay the rightful price for substandard/adulterated goods or are short-changed
c. Undeserved pay/wages/income

WHAT IS THEFT ALL ABOUT?

  1. Financial fraudulence
  2. Financial dubiousness

CATEGORIES OF FINANCIAL FRAUDULENCE AND DUBIOUSNESS:

a. Keeping back money that should be returned or retired
Keeping back money when you were overpaid or refusing to return money erroneously transferred to your account
b. False invoices and receipts
c. The financial deprivation of the deserving
e.g. Keeping back or cutting the travel allowance of subordinates

THE IMPLICATION OF THEFT:

  1. The thief must pay multiple for his theft, both in time and in eternity (Ex. 22:7; Num. 32:23; Prov. 6:30-31)
Anything you steal you must lose a minimum of double in your lifetime
Anything you take today that you were not given, you will lose many times of it before you die
  2. The thief must always move about with the cry of accusation (Job 30:5)
  3. The thief must exist with curses (Prov. 29:24; Zech. 5:1-4)
  4. The thief’s investment is doomed for destruction (Zech. 5:4; Jer. 17:11)
Anything you use crooked money to build is doomed for destruction
  5. The thief’s outcome is shame (Jer. 2:26a; Num. 32:23)
  6. The thief is destined to suffer (1Pet. 4:15)
  7. The thief’s eternal destiny is hellfire (John 10:10; Matt. 25:41; Rev. 21:8)

THE TREATMENT FOR THEFT/STEALING:

  1. Avoid covetousness and embrace contentment (1Tim. 6:6-10; Ps. 84:11)
If you have to steal it then you don’t need it
Whatever God can’t give you, you don’t need forever!
Whatever God can’t give you can’t help you, it will only hurt you.
What you don’t have now is not good enough for now; if it is good enough for now, wait on God to give it

  2. Embrace genuine upright labour to attract your due rewards (Eph. 4:28; Deut. 28:8; Jer. 17:11)
The Blessing of the Lord is always in search of the work of your hands
Whatever you don’t get by right is a curse, not a blessing.

  3. Avoid the trap to be like others by all means (2Cor. 10:12)
Don’t struggle to be like others because you don’t know how they got what they got
Life is in stages and men are in sizes; learn to accept your status per time – Bishop Oyedepo
Don’t live your life according to the expectations of people, live your life according to the expectations of God

  4. Become more interested in what you give than what you get (Eph. 4:28; Acts 20:35b)
Be more interested in being a blessing than in making a living
The crave to be a blessing kills criminal tendencies
When your passion is, ‘how can I be blessing to humanity?’, you won’t cheat people to be a blessing
When you begin to live beyond yourself, you begin to live beyond your time
When you begin to live beyond yourself, you begin to live above your sin
The act of giving leads to the conquest of greed which is the foundation/fuel of fraud

  5. Be eternal and earthly consequences-conscious of life’s actions (Rom. 14:12; Eccl. 12:13-14; Phil. 3:8)
Consciousness of consequence imparts caution to action
Life is all about transaction – you make gains and make losses (Positive ones) (Phil. 3:8)
Consciousness of consequence will discipline action
Be conscious of this – temporal gain may be followed by eternal loss

  6. Continually make demands on the grace of God, if this is an area of challenge (Tit. 2:11-12; Heb. 4:16)
It takes grace to say no
It takes grace to live right
When you look away from what isn’t yours then you will locate what is yours
