Opening Prayer: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.
Scripture: Matthew 23:1-15
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
The Scribes and the Pharisees were the authorized interpreters of the laws of Moses. Christ Jesus advised His followers to practise and observe their teachings. What, according to v.3, was wrong with these teachers of the law? Today there are many Christian teachers, but are we careful to do what the Lord teaches us to do?
Read vs.4-12 again. Find out four attitudes of these teachers of the law which Christ speaks against. A few of these in present day Christianity could be instructive: ? Pastors taking money from poor members of their congregations to enrich themselves; ?
Church leaders and preachers advertising themselves instead of the Christ whom they represent; ? Some church leaders love positions of honour and ascribe to themselves all manner of titles.
Our Lord encourages us to be humble, regard one another as brothers and sisters, and serve one another as serving Him, our one Lord and Master.
Vs.13-15 suggest that when our lifestyle as Christian leaders is contrary to the demands of the Gospel, then we are in fact shutting the door of heaven to the very people we are seeking to win for Christ.

Closing Prayer
• Lord, help me to live a life worthy of my Christian calling. • Thank God for the blood of Jesus that was shed for our salvation and total deliverance.
