Read vs.3-5 again and observe how lowly the origin of the Israelites (here represented by Jerusalem) was. It was that of a wretched, unwanted infant. It was God who gave this infant a chance to live (vs.6-7). In His love, God created a refuge for her and when she was mature enough to be a bride, “declared His marriage vows” to her (v.8, NLT). The Lord did not only beautify His people, they became a special race, a peculiar people.
Notice how He did this in vs.9-14. Israel trusted in her beauty and then used it and all she had received from God, including her fame, to become a ‘prostitute’ (v.15). She forgot the love God showed to her from her infancy and dabbled into idolatry (vs.16-19). She offered her children to idols by making them pass through fire (vs.20-21). Read v.22 again. Did Israel remember her sad beginning? Awful, isn’t it? But how different is the Church today?
How many Christian artists, pastors and businessmen and women have been overwhelmed by fame and slipped back into the world? Are you aware of such cases? In what ways can you be of help to them? For further study: Read 1 Peter 5:8-9 and Matthew 24:36-44 to be always on guard.

• Thank you, Lord, for bringing me from a rebellious lineage to become your queen. • Praise God for who He is – the King of kings, Almighty, Holy and Righteous, all Powerful, Unchangeable, Kind and Merciful beyond measure, beautiful for every situation.
