The Place of Contentment

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 34-36
TEXT: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” 1 Timothy 6 :6 – 7.
Contentment is very important in the life of any believer who wants to live a life of integrity and dignity on earth as the light of the world and at last make heaven. Contentment gives untold peace and satisfaction devoid of greed and anxiety for what one does not have.
It makes one grateful to God and believer and look up to Him for one’s needs serving faithfully with singleness of purpose observing due process to the praise and glory of His name
Contentment helps one manage what one has, making it even more than enough. It helps one live within one’s means, builds a wall of defense around one which shields one from the craze of materialism which has eaten deep into the church. With contentment, one is free from so many worldly distractions which entangles the lives of men and cut short their days.
One major reason for the reproach and dishonour that has befallen many believers is due to lack of contentment. They refuse to apply self-control and caution hence the spirit of Gehazi and Achan which is the spirit of greed possesses them making them do all sorts of things outside due process to acquire wealth. And since the spirit is of discontent meant, the more they do such evil, the more they get neck deep into it and their hearts become seared with hot iron. Nothing pricks their hearts anymore, rather they justify their actions explaining their outrageous and extravagant lifestyle which is far above their earnings as income of other quarters and favours from unknown sources.
They become bad influence to others who see them as in vogue, forgetting the end of such being (Prov.14 :12; 16 :25; 14 :34).
Child of God, are you on such a wrong path? Please refrain your steps to the right path of godliness with contentment which is great gain.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, help me Lord to be contented.
