Tuesday Message

Topic: Ichabod

Opening Prayer: Plant my steps in the sure promises of your word today, dear Lord.

Scripture: Ezekiel 10:1-22

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

God’s glory is depicted as departing from the Temple (v.1). God’s perfect holiness demands judgment for sin (v.2). God is of purer eye that He cannot behold iniquity. Before the departing of His glory, the man in linen clothing was asked to take burning coals beneath the cherubim and scatter it over the city. This represents the purging of sin and of judgement. For Jerusalem, this meant the destruction of all the people who blatantly sinned and refused to repent. Take note that the glory left in phases (see 10:4; 18; 11:23).

The Shekinah Glory did not only depart from the Temple but even from the entire city (11:23). What a disaster! This is very symbolic because just as this departure of the divine glory (graphic representation of God’s presence) marked the end of the theocratic kingdom in the OT history, so our world today is making every effort to keep God away from our national life hence the manifestation of all kinds of evil in our society (cf. Romans 1:19-32, 1 John 5:19). We must commit ourselves, our families, our churches and nation to follow God faithfully so we do not cause God to abandon us. Further reading: 1 Samuel 4.

Practice/Word Application
• Take note of the men who devise iniquity and give wicked counsel in your country or city

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Stand in the gap or judgment will follow soon. • Pray for the Church to spend money in a way that will best honour God.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Ezra 10:4; Deut. 7-9; Acts 2:22-47
