Topic: A Broken World

Through the Bible…

Morning: Nehemiah 9, 10, 11
Evening: Acts 4:1-22
Proverb: Proverbs 19

Lamentations 2:11
“My eyes fail with tears, My heart is troubled; My bile is poured on the ground Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, Because the children and the infants Faint in the streets of the city.”
NKJV

Dear Friend,

When we turn on the news, we are often flooded with images of natural disasters, sickness, and hunger. No matter who we are, where we live or how influential we may be, we are never immune to this broken world we live in. The Bible speaks of this broken world in this way:

Romans 8:20-21
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. NKJV

The very earth we live on is longing for the day it will be made new. Romans eight continues by saying that the creation “groans and labors with birth pains.” This imagery is one of a mother who desires to hold her child yet must first endure the suffering of labor pains. And so it is with our world and those living on it. We endure suffering and trials as a reminder of the glorious new birth that awaits us when Jesus returns to make all things new. When that happens, our groans of pain will turn to shouts of joy.

Life Lesson:
Suffering is part of living in a broken world. Accepting this truth brings us closer to finding peace in the middle of it.

Pastor David McGee’s Devotional 19 June 2021 Prayer:

Dear God,
Thank You for the love You make available to me in the midst of life’s difficulties. Give me an eternal perspective on everything that occurs in my life and on this earth. Allow me to mourn loss, but not with hopelessness, knowing that You are coming soon to make things new. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Living to tell what He died to say,
Pastor David McGee
