Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 June 2021Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th June 2021 Saturday Message

Topic: Call to God’s Service or Ministry

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Ezekiel 1:1-14

Question(s) for Reflection
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

God’s hand was on Ezekiel, and His word was in him. God’s message through him was therefore authentic. Despite the strange visions and rather difficult-to-understand symbolisms, the book of Ezekiel is rich and of great challenge to the Christian. It emphasizes God’s desire to reveal Himself and His glory to the exiles; His hatred for sin, although He will rather forgive than punish sinners if they repent and however hopeless any person’s case may appear to be, full restoration is possible to all who allow Him full control of their lives. The book challenges Christians to be witnesses of Christ to the world through their lives and words. It also challenges us to believe that no situation is so hopeless that God cannot redeem.

Ezekiel was among the Judean exiles in Babylon. Because of Israel’s rebellion against God, He handed them over to their enemies to rule over them. We must take caution and send sin out of our lives before it sends us out of God’s presence! At the age of thirty, when people normally enter active priestly ministry (Numbers 4:3), God revealed His glory to Ezekiel (vs.4-14), preparatory to his commissioning as prophet by God Himself (chapter 2). Youths can serve and live for God even in the midst of backsliders (Judean exiles) and unbelievers (Babylonians). Each of the living creatures in the vision had four faces, symbolizing God’s perfect nature, strength, dignity and diligent service. The people in exile had lost their perspective of God’s purpose and presence and Ezekiel came to them with this great vision from God. The purpose was to show God’s awesome glory and holiness, and to warn the exiles of sin’s consequences before it was too late.
