Topic: The Fool And The Sluggard
Opening Prayer: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.
Scripture: Proverbs 26:1-16

• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • Is there any warning for me to heed?
Today’s reading contrasts the ways of fools and lazy persons with that of the wise. The dilemma posed in vs.4&5 is resolved by: “In negligible issues one should ignore the foolish person (v.4), but in issues that matter, he must be dealt with (v.5), lest credence be given to what he says” (Expositor’s Bible Commentary). A fool is difficult to teach as he is constantly returning to his old habits, as a dog to its vomit (v.11).
The lazy person, though like the fool, might be worse. He comes up with all kinds of excuses for not wanting to do anything. He mistakenly thinks he is wiser than anyone else (vs.13-16). To overcome foolishness and laziness, take a few steps towards change, think, seek counsel and act. Set a concrete, realistic goal. Figure out steps/resources needed to reach it and follow those steps.
Pray for strength and persistence and trust the Lord to see you through. “To keep your excuses from making you useless, stop making useless excuses” (Mike Noce). Check the biblical definition of a fool (Psalms 14:1) and don’t be one.

• Lord, please reveal to me the blinders in my life and help me to overcome them. • Pray for your Pastor and other Church leaders to be effective in ministry: clarity of message, courage to be scriptural, power of the Holy Spirit and exemplary life style
