TOPIC: Transition
Opening Prayer: Plant my steps in the sure promises of your word today, dear Lord.

• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
The four previous chapters (24 to 27) provide a detailed record of the religious, political and military divisions in Israel as King David handed over power to his son. The remaining two chapters of this book deal with the transition more specifically. David wanted to arouse both the incoming King and the leaders of the nation to the task of building God’s House in Jerusalem.
First, he charged the leaders (vs.2-5), and then Solomon (vs.9-10), to consecrate themselves to the building programme. Why was the building so dear to David’s heart (v.2; 29: 3, Psalm 8:1)? Read again the specific instructions David gave his son to ensure he was successful as King (vs.8-9). This applies to all of us, but especially to young people starting life (Psalm 119:9).
During David’s long years as King, he prepared detailed written plans for the building (vs.11-20). Were all the ideas simply from David’s (v.19)? Note the encouraging words Solomon received from his dad (vs.20-21). Is there someone you need to encourage today in your home, at work, or at school?

• Thought: Have you made a will so that if you die suddenly, you would have set your house in order? Does your private business or company have a succession plan to ensure a smooth transition?

• Grant me wisdom, heavenly Father, to manage each transition in my life well. • Pray for the political leaders of your country to imbibe the virtues of truth, honesty and compassion for their citizens.
