Overcoming Discouragement

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Heb.1-3

TEXT: And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30 :6.

Discouragement is a weapon that the devil uses to cripple the children of God, his enemies. The devil knows that if he can get you to be discouraged, four thing are bound to happen to you:

1. You Are Disconnected From God:

Discouragement creates an anti-covenant atmosphere where God cannot dwell because it breeds sorrow and faithless Ness which displease God. God is a God of faith. If you say you have faith, where is your works? Faith is not just confession; it steps out with courage acting on the word of God.

That is why God said to Joshua when commissioning him”Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do… ” (Joshua 1 :6 – 7). My emphasis here is “That thou mayest observe to do”. In other words, without courage, you cannot do.

2. You Remain On One Spot:

A discouraged man is a limited man. He is an oppressed man with no will-power to pursue his dreams and destiny, all he sees are limitations around him and therefore, his movement becomes stagnated.

3. The Devil Inhabits You:

When you allow discouragement, you have personally invite the devil to take over the affairs of your life and he goes on to afflict you with all manners of sicknesses and diseases ranging from depression to high blood pressure.
I pray for you that every root of discouragement in your life, dies right now, in Jesus Name.

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, I reject every form of discouragement in my life, by fire
