Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th March 2021 Message:
God made a covenant with Israel at Mount Horeb. He promised to bless and make them into a nation through whom all the world would be blessed. The Israelites promised to love and obey God in order to receive his physical and spiritual blessings. In today’s passage, Moses renews this covenant (v.1). God had kept his part as he always would by the way he led and provided for them (vs.2-8). Note the reason for his faithfulness (v.6). However, the Israelites were already neglecting their part (see Deut. 1:26-2:15). Moses reminds them of God’s past goodness to assure them that God is able and faithful. Always remember God’s past goodness when in doubt or fear. Note the condition for their prosperity (v.9). They, as it were, held the key to their own happiness. Our key to prosperity is Matthew 6:33. Lasting success is a blessing from God. Nobody sent a representative; all, including the children, were there in person (vs.10-11). Note the value of this covenant in v.12 and its purpose in v.13. Notice also that they were representing future generations too (vs.14-15). What we do today will affect future generations!
