Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

Scripture for Today: Matthew 2:1–12

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

Message: We noticed while meditating on the genealogy of Jesus that he was not just the King and the Messiah of the Jews, but of the whole world. His worldwide salvation is shown in the visit of the Gentile wise men. God revealed this great news to them through the system they were used to and could easily understand (Romans 1:20). They travelled from afar to seek the special King. Read vv.2&3 and note the sharp contrast between them and king Herod. Why was Herod disturbed? He was right to consult the Jewish leaders to understand the prophecy about the King, but he took the wrong decision.

The Saviour and King of the world was born, and he thought he (Jesus) was competing with him over his miniature kingdom. The Scribes and the Chief Priests had every information about the Messiah, but they made no effort to find him. They sat back at Jerusalem and abandoned the wise men to their search. It is one thing to know the truth like Herod and the Jewish leaders, but another to make use of it to bring freedom.

Notice how the Magi responded to Jesus (vv.10–11a, 11b). Their worship was genuine and their gifts precious, expensive and meaningful. God desires that we too offer him our best and most valuable. But, first thing first, see Romans 12:1.
