Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
The Psalmist describes the joy and security that he experiences with the tribes of the Lord as they stand in the gate of Jerusalem. There is joy in the fellowship of God’s people. The importance of coming together is beautifully put in Hebrews 10:24–25. Unfortunately, many people do not make time for this. Others think that the worship of God is purely an individual’s business. Note, however, the example of the early disciples (Acts 2:46–47). See vv.4, 6&9 for the important things that should occupy us while in God’s house. Jerusalem served as a unifying force (v.4a), and a place of worship (v.4b). Seeking for peace and prosperity of Jerusalem (vv.6–9) was important for the political, social, and religious life of the people. Paul knew this very well and wrote to Timothy about the need to pray for those in authority. Read 1 Timothy 2:1–4. Observe the relationship between peace and security (v.7) and the necessity of peace within a person or a city (v.8).
