Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th December 2020 Message

Topic: For fear I had run in vain!

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

Scripture: Galatians 2:1–10

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Notice the good example that Paul demonstrated in this passage. Paul here recalls his visit to Jerusalem to consult again with those who were apostles before him. Notice his intention for this trip in v.2. The church today desperately needs this spirit of cooperation. This action led to division of labour in the early church. Many ministers are, these days, competing in the same field, each trying to oust or manoeuvre the others, while many untouched areas are crying for help. Notice Paul’s statement in v. 6b (cf. Deut. 10: 17; Acts 10: 34; Rom. 2: 11; cp Rom. 3: 29 ─ 30; 10: 12 ─ 13).

There is room for specializing in different aspects of evangelism (vv.8 – 9). We can achieve far more when Christians complement each other. Which is more important, Peter’s field or Paul’s? In looking for these key leaders, Paul showed respect for authority (cf. Acts 15:1–2). We too need to give due respect to authorities even when we feel we are in the right. Notice, however, that this did not mean compromising the basic truth (see vv.3–5). More shall be said about this tomorrow. To whom are you accountable in your belief and behaviour? Are you under effective pastoral care? What additional area of service was Paul to remember (v.10)?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
