Reflection:
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 29th November 2020

Remind yourself who the Ammonites are (Genesis 19:38) and their interaction with the nation of Israel that offended God (Amos 1:13). Like their sister nation Moab, Ammon was evil, and God had rejected her. Vv.1–2 indicates that they had possessed the land belonging to the Israelites. Because of their nature, they were going to contaminate the Lord’s people.

Notwithstanding their evil nature in v.6, the Lord promises to restore their fortunes. God’s mercy is without end and we are unable to tell on whom he will extend his grace! The Edomites descended from Esau who was also called Edom, Jacob’s brother.

They needed to have brotherly relationships with Israelites but they too gloated over Israel’s defeat by Babylon. These nations were going to be punished by God and no one was going to stop that because they had angered God. Once divine judgment is pronounced, you have reached the point of no return, judgment is assured.

When we continue to live in sin, God who is righteous will punish us however secure we may feel today. Edom would be punished with no one to rescue her and no hiding place for her. The psalmist clearly understood that you cannot hide from God, the omnipresent one (see Psalm 139:7─12).

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
Meditation: “Even the dark is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day: for dark and light are the same to you” Psalm `39:12 (Bas).

Christlikeness: God had in mind the type and representative of a new humanity by sending Christ to die for humanity. Embodying in Himself is the divine idea and plan of a Christlike humanity. This is achieved by the new relation to God, on the basis of the new life of the Spirit on the righteousness proceeding from that life.

It is a life that is like Christ. A changed life speaks loudly and clearly and it is often the most effective way to influence non–Christians to Christ.

Prayer:
• Grant me the grace to live in the consciousness of being a steward who will render an account of his stewardship!
• Thank God and pray for Scripture Union (SU), Children Evangelism Ministry (CEM) and other specialized ministries to Children and youths.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Samuel 22:17

Read The Bible In One Year: 2 Chron. 23–24; Luke 9:18–36
