28th November 2020 – The Holy Anger Of God

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Saturday 28th November 2020. Be inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!

TOPIC: THE HOLY ANGER OF GOD

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Jeremiah 48:25–47

Reflection:
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

MESSAGE: Reflect on vv.27–30. Why would God seek to punish the Moabites for their behaviour against Israel (Zephaniah 2:8–11; Ezekiel 25:8–11)? Israel is the Lord’s chosen nation and will always have a special place in his heart.

Although God used other nations including the Moabites to punish Israel for her rebellion, they were not allowed to go beyond the limit he permits in dealing with his nation. In the same manner, any person who belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s possession and is very special to him.

The devil has no power over a child of God and he can only do what the Lord permits and this for purposes of sanctification. Note, however, that God is able to bring good out of evil and use that for his purpose. Despite God’s anger against Moab, he chose to bless some individuals from that nation and those include Ruth who became King David’s ancestor (Ruth 4:16–17).

What can Christians learn from this? God is sovereign and abhors sin. He blesses whom he will bless. His declarations remain firm and whatever punishments and blessings he has pronounced will come to pass. Although, he has poured out his anger against Moab, v.47 indicates that there is some hope for her in the future.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
So What? Meditate on v 47.

Prayer:
• Pray that as you have been blessed by God’s grace to know the Lord Jesus, you too may be a blessing to others.
• Thank God in anticipation of the dawn of a productive and happy week.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Exodus 3:8

Read The Bible In One Year: 2 Chron. 21–22; Luke 9:1–17
